Skövde can be reached by air, train, and car. Skövde city is situated on the railway line between the two main cities of Sweden, Gothenburg and Stockholm.
Arriving by air to Gothenburg
1. If you arrive by air to Landvetter airport, take the airport shuttle to the Nils Eriksson terminal (last stop for the airport coach). You can also use the SJ web site to make a reservation for a trip from Landvetter airport (From “Landvetter flygplats”) to Skövde (To “Skövde Central”).
2. The Nils Eriksson terminal is adjacent to the main railway station (“Göteborg Central”). From there, take the train to Skövde. The time table for trains can be found here. From Göteborg, there are also local trains to Skövde (Västtrafik).
3. In Skövde, the recommended hotel for conference attendees (Hotel Scandic Billingen) is located at walking distance (100m west from the train station main entrance). There are taxis outside the station if your hotel is more remotely located (if no taxi is available at the station, links to taxi companies are listed below).
Arriving by air to Stockholm
1. If you arrive at Arlanda airport, take Arlanda Express from the airport to Stockholm central station. You can also use the SJ web site to make a reservation for a trip from Arlanda airport (From “Arlanda Central”) to Skövde (To “Skövde Central”). Please note that there are different stations inside Arlanda airport. Long distance trains depart from “Arlanda Central”, whereas Arlanda Express trains depart from “Arlanda Norra Station” and “Arlanda Södra Station”.
2. From Stockholm central station, take the train to Skövde. The time table for trains can be found here.
3. In Skövde, the recommended hotel for conference attendees (Hotel Scandic Billingen) is located at walking distance (100m west from the train station main entrance). The recommended hotel
The recommended hotel is Hotel Scandic Billingen at which rooms have been reserved for booking by conference attendees. A hotel room is booked by calling +46 500 745022 or by email (billingen [at] scandichotels.com) and stating booking code
“OpenSYM 2019”. Any unbooked hotel rooms will be released on 18 July.
Alternative hotels are Hotel Majoren and Hotel Prisma. State “University of Skövde” as reference for a special negotiated rate.
Getting to the conference venue
The conference venue (University of Skövde, building G) is located 600 meters (8 minute walk) from the recommended hotel for conference attendees (Hotel Scandic Billingen). This link shows the recommended walking route from the hotel. Of course, you can also take a taxi from the hotel. A campus map is available here (PDF), which shows the conference venue (the yellow building marked “G” on the map) and the travel centre (marked “6” on the map). The recommended hotel (Hotel Scandic Billingen) is situated next to (just above) the house marked “7” on the map.
